How to Create an HTTPS Website or Web PageIn Feburary 2016 30,

In Feburary 2016 30,
Purchase an SSL certificate. There are a number of companies that offer SSL certificates, including Verisign.com, GoDaddy.com and InstantSSL.com.
Generate a certificate signing request (CSR) from your web server. Typically, the easiest way is to contact your web server support desk and ask them to do it for you. Each type of web server is different. Most allow you to generate a CSR with their user interface, but it can be a complicated process.
Submit your CSR to the company you purchased your SSL certificate from. Most SSL companies have a form you can copy and paste the CSR into, but you can always paste it into a text document and email it to them.
Install your approved SSL certificate on your web server. Once your SSL company verifies your CSR and assigns it to your SSL certificate, they will issue an approved SSL server certificate that must be installed on your web server in order to activate your site security. Again, the easiest way to accomplish this is to contact your web server help desk and ask them to do it for you. Once your SSL certificate is installed you will be able to access your site via HTTPS and your data transfer will be securely encrypted.

How to Stop a SYN Flood AttackIn Feburary 2016 28,

In Feburary 2016 28,
Click the Windows 'Start' button and select 'Run.' Enter 'regedit' in the text box and click the 'Enter' key. This opens the Windows registry, where you will add the settings.
Navigate to the folder 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services' in the registry. New values for this key will be added to prevent the server from using resources during a SYN attack.
Right-click the 'Services' folder and select 'New Key' and choose 'DWORD' as the value. Enter 'SynAttackProtect' for the key name. Enter '2' as the value. This provides the best defense against a SYN attack by making the connection time out more quickly. The '2' represents the amount of time the IIS server will wait before it stops expecting a reply from the client. By stopping this time sooner, it frees up resources sooner and stops the server from waiting too long, saving websites from poor performance during SYN attacks. This is the recommended value by Microsoft.
Right-click the 'Service' folder and select 'New Key' and choose 'DWORD' for the type. Enter 'EnableDeadGWDetect' for the name. Enter the value of '0' in the text box. This disables the host from sending traffic to an unintended gateway, which could cause a breach in security.
Right-click the 'Service' folder and select 'New Key' and choose 'DWORD' for the type. Enter 'EnablePMTUDiscovery' as the name and enter '0' for the value. This disables the use of high amounts of resources on the computer, protecting it from memory overload and crashes.
Close the registry and reboot the computer for the changes to take effect.

How to Add Affiliate Banners to a WebsiteIn Feburary 2016 24,

In Feburary 2016 24,
Decide which affiliate you want to add to your website. You can add several affiliates to different pages on your website, or you can simply paste one affiliate banner on one web page. Once you decide on an affiliate, or group of advertisers, it is time to add your banner.
Select the banner you want to add to your website. If you have an affiliate account with a merchant, they will most likely send you banners with the HTML or JAVA code for that banner, which you need to paste into your web pages. This HTML code draws the banner image from the affiliates' servers and displays it on your website page. You should not have to download images, or add any more files to your website server to add an affiliate to your website. A typical piece of JAVA banner code looks like this:
A'>http://www.linktobanner.com/your_tracking_code?target=_blank&mouseover=Y'></script> A typical piece of HTML code looks like this: <img'>http://www.link.to.banner/image/your_trackingcode'><img src='http://www.tqlkg.com/image-999999-999999' width='468' height='60' alt='Airaid Intake' border='0'/>
Copy the HTML or JAVA script code by placing your cursor at the beginning of the code, left click and hold down the mouse button, and then drag the cursor across the entire piece of code. It will become highlighted in blue, right click, then select 'copy' from the menu that appears on your screen.
Open the file for the web page where you would like to insert the code on your FTP server, or computer. Paste the HTML or JAVA code into the web page, where you want the affiliate banner to appear. To do this, download the HTML file of the web page to your computer, from your FTP server, using an FTP client, (or your website hosting account's FTP connection) and open it in notepad. Paste the HTML code or JAVA script code into the HTML code, where the banner should appear. If your page uses a table, create a new row and insert the code, or place it accordingly in the first row. The banner is handled just like an image by your browser.
Upload the website page to your domain using your FTP client and server in the directory it came from, and click overwrite page, of prompted to by the FTP client. View your page and make sure the banner is in the right place. If not, move the entire piece of code until the affiliate banner appears where you want it to appear.

How to Start a Devotional or Inspirational WebsiteIn Feburary 2016 22,

In Feburary 2016 22,
Secure a domain name for your devotional/inspirational website. A domain name will cost you $10 or less per year. To secure a domain name, visit a domain name registrar, such as GoDaddy, Network Solutions or NetFirms. In order to earn a better search engine ranking, try to incorporate the word 'Devotional' or 'Inspirational' in your domain name. For instance, instead of using the domain name janesnuggets.com, you can use janesinspirationalnuggets.com.
Find server space on the web for your devotional/inspirational website. Consider using a blog site for server space. By using blog hosting instead of traditional web hosting, you won't get frustrated with the technical stuff while trying to put your inspirational pieces online. A blog site will also keep your inspirational pieces organized and archived by date. Blog sites you can use are WordPress, TypePad, and SiteGround. You will have to sign up for an account in order to use the blog hosting sites.
Connect the domain name that was purchased in step 1 to your website. This is done during the sign-up process.
Select a template (background) for your devotional/inspirational website. The blog sites that are listed in the step 2 will provide a variety of templates to choose from.
Start adding content to your devotional/inspirational website. To do this, click on the option to create a 'New' article. You will be able to upload inspirational pictures to go along with your devotional content.
Submit the domain name for your devotional/inspirational website to search engines. If you don't your website won't be found by those who are searching for inspirational content. You can use websites such as Submit Express and Free Web Submission to submit your site to numerous search engines at one time.
Post new content on a regular basis. If you are inconsistent, readers are likely to stop visiting your website and move on to another that can deliver consistently.

How to Register a Business EmailIn Feburary 2016 21,

In Feburary 2016 21,
Make up a domain name for your business e-mail address. A domain name is a type of online identifier. Each domain name resolves to an Internet Protocol (IP) address. IP addresses are used to route Internet users to the location of files in cyberspace. In an e-mail address, the domain follows the '@' symbol. For example, in the e-mail address 'Sarah@StrawberryAppletart.com,' 'StrawberryAppletart.com' is the domain name, and 'Sarah' is the username. If you have a commercial business, you may use either the '.com' or '.net' server type designation. If your business is non-profit you may use the '.org' server type designation. Choose your domain name carefully. Bear in mind that domain names are not only used in e-mail addresses, but website addresses as well. So as you select a domain name for your business e-mail, consider that you might also want to create a corresponding website with this domain name.
Check the availability of your selected domain name. You can use either of the 'Check Domain' resource links provided in this article. If the domain name you have chosen is already registered by somebody else, you'll have to try another name.
Register your domain name. After you check the availability of your domain name, you'll be given the option to register it. Domain name registration costs $5 to $10 a year. You also can register for a two- or three-year time span.
Sign up for an account with an e-mail hosting service. E-mail hosting services provide access to an outsourced e-mail system. The cost of using this type of service is generally less than $40 annually. Some e-mail hosting services offer free domain name registration for customers who open up an account with them.

How to Make a VPS Out of a Dedicated ServerIn Feburary 2016 20,

In Feburary 2016 20,
Check to determine if your physical server meets the hardware requirement of the hypervisor that you want to use. A hypervisor is the operating system that manages the virtual servers. Some hypervisors require specific hardware to install at all.
Save the data and/or configuration of the appliance currently running on the physical server.
Put the disc in the reader and install the hypervisor. Hypervisors install like any other operating system.
Virtual Server
Once installed, you will be able to boot in the hypervisor console. Refer to your manual to create a Virtual Machine (VM). Choose what CPU power, memory and storage amount the VM will have access to. The CPU power, RAM amount and storage amount can be changed after creation if your appliance's needs go up.
Install the operating system using an ISO (image of a disk stored on a hard drive), a disk or the network. The installation and configuration is identical to an installation on a physical server. Install and configure the appliance.
Repeat the process for all of the appliances you want to install in virtual servers on the physical server.

How to Embed Audio in HTMLIn Feburary 2016 17,

In Feburary 2016 17,
Choose an audio file. You can use an mp3 or .wav file. If you do not have an audio file, make one using any one of the freeware or shareware programs available on the Web.
Upload the audio file to your webserver. Select the file to play on your website and make sure it is in the same directory as your website. To play an audio file on a blog that is hosted on a different server, upload the audio file to a free Web hosting company.
Embed the audio file. Copy and paste the following code onto your website:
Replace the 'myaudio.mp3' with the name of your audio file. Keep the quotation marks. This not only embeds the audio, but also creates a player that allows you to turn the audio on and off.
Embed the audio file onto your blog. Change the file name in the code to the complete URL where the audio file is located. For example, using the following:
Change the name of 'myaudio.mp3' to the full URL address where your mp3 is located. The embed code will create a music player.
Adjust volume, height and width settings to match your blog or website. A width setting of '144' is recommended.

How to Find Your Port Number on GoDaddyIn Feburary 2016 12,

In Feburary 2016 12,
Access your email server port settings. The instructions for reaching the port settings vary on all email clients, but you can usually do so either when you first set up the email or by selecting the email account properties.
Look to see if you have enabled 'This sever requires a secure connection.' If you did not, type '143' into the incoming port if you're using an IMAP-enabled email. Type '110' if you're using a POP-enabled email. You can look to see whether you're using POP or IMAP in the main email settings. If you do have a secure connection enabled, set the IMAP settings to 993 and the POP settings to 995.
Set the 'Outgoing Mail' port to '80,' '25,' '3535' or '787' if you do not have a secure connection enabled. Depending on your location and connection, some ports may not work. If you do have a secure connection enabled, set the port to '465.' Click 'Apply' and 'OK.'

How to Create an HTML Input Box and Output to Another PageIn Feburary 2016 08,

In Feburary 2016 08,
Open the HTML source code page into which you desire to place the form containing a 'textarea' input box. In this example, you will be using 'sometext.html' as the HTML source page. The separate page with PHP code will be called 'displaysometext.php.' Both pages will be stored on the Web hosting server where your website is located.
Create the form section within the HTML source code, and tell the form that the data entered by the user will be submitted to the external PHP-enabled page. In the case of this example, the user data will be submitted to displaysometext.php. Enter the following line between the
and the
tags of the HTML page.Save the document to your computer as sometext.html and upload it to your Web hosting server.
Open a new page in your text editor and enter the following six lines of text.
Display Some Text PHP Script Page
?>
Save the page as displaysometext.php
Enter the following lines between the '
' lines that tells PHP to accept the text from the input box of the origination page. Remember that the name of the submit operation was 'comment.' When the user submits the form, that label will be submitted as the identifier for the text the user entered. The lines to accept this information should appear as follows.if(isset($_POST['submit'])){
$usercomments = $_POST['comment'];'
Have your PHP script do something with the text the user entered. This can be something as simple as printing to the Web browser what the user entered on the original page. In this example, type the following three lines.echo 'The information you entered was as follows:';
echo $usercomments;
}
Save the 'displaysometext.php' page code to your computer, then upload it into the same directory of the Web hosting server that contains HTML page containing the input box.
Point your browser to the HTML page that accepts the user input. That page, in this example, would be 'sometext.html'. Enter some text into the input box, then click the 'Submit Comments' button below it. Note that the small PHP code snippet in the 'displaysometext.php' page processes and displays everything you entered on a new Web page.

How to Modify Zen Cart to Use External ImagesIn Feburary 2016 08,

In Feburary 2016 08,
Access the 'Developer Toolkit' from the Zen Cart administrator screen. In the search box, type 'DIR_WS_IMAGES.' This brings up all the pages that contain code to be modified. In each page, replace 'DIR_WS_IMAGES' with 'DIR_EXT_HTTP.' This tells Zen Cart to look for images externally rather than in the 'image' folder. This step is necessary only once.
Navigate to the Web server that contains the image that you are linking. If the images are stored on your hard drive, you need to upload them first. Sites such as imageshack.us and photobucket.com (and others) offer both free and paid services for image hosting. Alternatively, you could choose to host them on a private server, if available.
Right-click on the image once it is displayed in your browser and select 'Properties.' This brings up a window that displays the image attributes and location. Highlight the URL that appears next to the 'Path' field then right-click the selection and choose 'Copy' from the menu. Example text (without quotes): 'http://example.com/image.jpg."
Paste the URL copied in Step 3 into the 'Product Image' text box on the 'Product Attribute' page, and save the changes. Your external image should now be displayed correctly.

Can a Domain Have Multiple Name Servers? In Feburary 2016 03,

In Feburary 2016 03,
DNS servers, or name servers, are configured on the domain name registrar's website. The registrar is the company that the domain name is registered with. The exact steps to specify the server names will vary by registrar. There will usually be space to enter at least two different name server addresses. Redundancy and load balancing are automatically achieved by configuring multiple DNS servers.
Redundancy
Redundancy is achieved when at least two different DNS servers are specified for a domain name. This means that if one server is not available, the domain will still function because the other server(s) handle the DNS requests.
Load Balancing
Load balancing is useful for domain names that receive a large number of requests. It allows the requests to be spread over multiple DNS servers, so that a single server does not become overwhelmed. This type of load balancing is different than web server load balancing, which is a special type of DNS configuration that ensures a single web server does not become overloaded.
